Since 1985, the Vascular Diagnostic Center of Oak Ridge, Inc. (VDC) has offered noninvasive testing that has proven to be highly accurate, clinically reliable, and cost-effective.

The VDC testing features state-of-the-art duplex imaging providing quick and accurate assessment of atherosclerotic disease while giving plaque and blood flow details unattainable by other means.

Based on our noninvasive tests, health professionals use the results to establish definitive diagnosis and aid patients in critical decisions regarding management of their disease. Successful noninvasive studies eliminate the expense and morbidity of invasive arteriograms and other costly studies.

Inpatient and outpatient vascular studies are used to evaluate the cerebrovascular, abdominal, peripheral arterial, and venous systems. All tests are performed by registered vascular technologists. Our high quality tests are performed using the latest technology available. Credentialed vascular surgeons interpret the results, immediately reporting any critical findings to the referring physician with a written report available within 48 hours.

Functional information as well as structural data is reported. For example, Doppler measures blood velocities and turbulent flow, and ultrasound gives structural data. Tests are performed serially. Since plaque composition is an important factor in determining stroke risk, our tests aim for correct identification. Ultrasound imaging distinguishes between calcific plaque, soft plaque, and plaque with subintimal hemorrhage. The reliability of these high quality studies is supported by ongoing comparison with arteriography, clinical outcome, and pathology identified in the operating room.
